Heroes of Today
A baby girl napped softly in her mother's arms,
Waiting for a bus to go home.
Around 'em stood four mid-aged men
And the mother took to some alarm.
A business man nearest to her slightly smiled
So as to tell her she was safe;
Two other working men watching thought,
"This guy's hitting on her right in front of my face?"
Another standing farther off in the dark
Could see that all were watching her.
He cleared his throat and folded his arms
Asserting himself as her protector.
All the mother thought of was her baby
And squinted far down the lonely street,
But to her dismay she saw a younger tatooed man
With baggy clothes and shaved head, looking really mean.
As he approached she turned away, shaking,
While scowling faces of the four men watched
As the scoundrel a seat by her was actually taking,
Their hearts' desire was to shred him!
Nobody said a word during this odd, tense moment.
Suddenly the shadow of a man was seen lurking,
And as they watched what he would do,
From a nearby alley there came a noise
That got all their nerves a-working!
The lurking man ran at the sound of the noise
And a gun-toting shadow gave chase,
Firing into the waiting group without aim,
Careless as to who or what he hit.
In a split second four men had disappeared
Somewhere safe into a shadowy bush.
The baby was crying, the mother was crying,
But the scoundrel still shielding them was dying.
Breath-takeningly Beautifully the words doth flow..
Very thought provoking.
The rhyme is a little clumsy at times but it's well written
The rhyme doesn't really matter in this case. The message is very well put in my opinion.
